Flashblock

Those blinking advertising banners all over the net can be pretty annoying, and the new generation of web advertising is flash-based, which has rendered good-old Adblock and similar countermeasures ineffective.

The Flashblock Firefox extension to the rescue. It simply gives all embedded flash animations a play button. Brilliant, actually.

Update: I have just been informed in a comment by Adblock creator Wladimir Palant that Adblock Plus also works with flash.

Actually, both Adblock and Adblock Plus block Flash just fine. You cannot block via context menu but there are other options: http://adblockplus.org/en/faq_basics#objects

I havent heard of Adblock Plus, but I have just installed it, and I can see it works fine. Thanks for the tip:)

With Adblock Plus you can see the flash element, and can choose to eliminate it, whereas it's the other way around with Flashblock.
